Supportive Services for Veteran Families, Case Manager

YWCA Seattle King County & Snohomish County Renton, WA

The SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) Case Manager will work closely with Homeless and Formerly Homeless Veterans and their Families and is part of the YWCA’s Specialized and Integrated Services Division. Case managers will identify and engage with current and previously homeless families to assist them in obtaining and retaining permanent affordable housing. This will require establishing effective case management relationships with formerly homeless veterans and homeless veteran families, building relationships with property managers and other social service providers in coordination with the SSVF Program Manager I.

This position assists in connecting families to supportive services to help ensure success in permanent housing. This position will be expected to respond to crisis situations which could result in loss of permanent housing if not resolved. This position has a caseload of families seeking housing as well as families experiencing difficulty in maintaining housing. SSVF case managers will provide engagement and outreach in conjunction with the SSVF Outreach Intake Specialist.

Expectations of your role:
Provide outreach throughout King County to locate, identify, engage and refer homeless and formerly homeless veterans and their families to veterans benefits and services as well as other available health and human services.
Provide links to housing and housing stability resources.
Build relationships with landlords/property managers.
Meet with applicants to determine eligibility and assist the Outreach/Intake Specialist with the application process.
Work in collaboration with other social service providers in the community.
Assess the strengths and challenges of the client family and assist family in developing housing stability goals and individual goal plans and action steps.
Provide or ensure provision of life skills training and support when needed.
Provide referral and connection to supportive services, such as chemical dependency treatment, mental health counseling, domestic violence advocacy, etc.
Conduct home visits to ensure housing stability.
Accurately and thoroughly document performance of all of the tasks above.
Meet regularly with SSVF staff to help ensure success for the families and the program.
Attend meetings with human service providers and other public functions as related to the SSVF program.
Help with administrative support of the program through regular reporting and record keeping as directed.
Show demonstrated ability to interact with people of different cultures and promote social justice.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
BA in social services or related field and/or a minimum (3) years’ experience working with low-income individuals and families and or persons with disabilities, with a strong focus on supportive services for Veterans.
Knowledge and experience in providing services to Veterans.
Experience with crisis intervention and case management.
Experience working with homeless families/individuals
Knowledge of family dynamics.
Experience working with persons who have chemical dependency and mental health issues.
Knowledge of and experience working with persons who have experienced domestic violence.
Knowledge of housing resources in King County, Landlord/Tenant Laws and Fair Housing Regulations in Seattle and King County.
Must be able to travel independently throughout King County.
Ability and willingness to work as part of team and independently.

Hours, Rate, and Benefits
Hourly Rate: $26.50
Hours: 40

At the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan

Shelter Life Coach

The primary responsibility of the Shelter Life Coach is to serve families experiencing homelessness by providing time-limited emergency shelter, along with enhanced services focused on employment, support with housing search and placement to help secure permanent housing. Shelter is provided in the form of hotels/motels or individual shelter units. The enhanced services include, but are not limited to, landlord liaison activities, financial coaching, and housing counseling. This position will work closely with the Housing Program Manager to implement new housing and employment strategies aimed at linking housing case management and employment services with the goal of making progress toward living-wage employment and housing stability. Housing Stability Specialist

What You'll Do
The primary responsibility of the Housing Stability Specialist is to work closely with individuals and families residing in the City of Seattle and/or King County who are experiencing instability and at risk of losing their housing. This short-term housing intervention is intended to connect program participants in crisis situations to supportive services to help ensure success in maintaining permanent housing. Services provided include, but are not limited to landlord liaison activities, financial coaching, housing counseling and connecting participants to community resources. This position will collaborate closely with the Housing Program Manager to develop and implement innovative housing and employment strategies. The primary focus will be on integrating housing case management with employment services to help participants achieve living-wage employment and long-term housing stability.

Expectations of your role:
• Screen applicants for rental assistance need and eligibility
• Provide links to housing and housing stability resources
• Meet with applicants as needed to assist with the program eligibility, application process, housing search or other resources related to establishing housing stability (e.g. TANF, unemployment benefits, etc.)
• Assess the strengths and challenges of the family and assist them with developing housing stability goals and individual goal plans, and action steps.
• Collaborate with property management and/or landlords to negotiate payment plans and prevent eviction
• Provide or ensure provision of support services, as needed
• Provide referral and connection to supportive services, such as chemical dependency treatment, mental health counseling, domestic violence advocacy, etc.
• Conduct Housing Habitability standard inspection for new Move Ins
• Accurately and thoroughly document the performance of all tasks listed above in the client's file.
• Help with administrative support of the program through regular reporting and accurate record keeping as directed
• Participating in occasional outreach activities to boost participant enrollment
• Participate in regular check-in meetings with supervisor and other identified meetings and/or trainings to increase professional knowledge
• Adhere to all Volunteer Services protocol related to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring.

To Be Successful:
• BA in Social Services or related field and/or 3 years related experience working with people with disabilities, support service seekers and low-income individuals and families
• Valid Washington state driver’s license, reliable vehicle and insurance for travel throughout Seattle
• One-year experience working in crises intervention and/or the public/nonprofit-housing sector preferred
• Comfortable working knowledge of and experience with computers
• Ability and willingness to work as part of a team independently
• Values social justice and provides culturally competent services
• Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures than your own
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational and record keeping skills
• Knowledge of barrier elimination strategies and maintaining housing stability for families and individuals
• Experience advocating for people with housing needs, chemical dependency, physical and /or mental health issues, domestic violence and criminal history
• Knowledge of housing resources in Seattle and/or King County, Landlord/Tenant Laws and Fair Housing Regulations in Seattle and King County
• Core Competencies: Attention to detail, customer service, discernment/judgment, problem solving, finance, technical expertise, and social justice advocacy
